In recent times national and cultural peculiarities have become a subject of research in many fields of human sciences. Politeness is one of the principal communication categories that regulate people’s behavior. The purpose of the article is to consider the speech act of gratitude as a category of politeness in speech etiquette of Russian, Kabardinian and English languages.

The article considersthe analysis of the stylistic characteristics of Charles de Gaulle’s speeches during the Second World War. The use of the following figures of speech by the orator is noted: reduplications, series of homogeneous parts of the sentence, syntactic parallelism, rhetorical questions. As for tropes, metaphor, metonymy and periphrasis are used. As far as syntactic characteristics are concerned the authors mention the domination of future tenses in those parts of the speeches where the general speaks about France and its destiny. The skilful use of enumerated figures of speech, means of speech expressiveness and lexical units allows Charles de Gaulle to realize his main purposes: appeal to the French nation for the struggle against invaders and show support of participants of Resistance movement.

This article provides the etymology of the terms associated with the names of the craft and their parts. Their lexical and morphological analysis allows to determine the scope of operation and the place of this group of vocabulary in the lexical system of the Mansi language. The authors conducted a methodical analysis of the vocabulary in thematic and lexico-semantic groups.

Tendencies towards the convergence of the exact sciences and the humanities are becoming increasingly common. The integration of the methodology of the exact sciences into the field of linguistics also takes place. This article examines how synergetics, emerging in the natural sciences, can be effectively applied to the study of certain linguistic phenomena, such as political discourse. The authors prove that the basic concepts of synergetics are applicable in the study of political discourse.

The dissociation of a translation from consumer’s life world may be one of the reasons for the translator's being unable to meet the wants and needs of the translation consumer. It is fair to ask the question whether there was a time when a translator was not dissociated from this life world. This makes us go back as far as it is possible to prescientific, prehistoric initial senses of translation implementation and observe the development of the contemporary issue to its very origin.

This paper presents an attempt to forecast the readers' reception of foreign works of fiction that demonstrates facts of translation multiplicity. It also shows the negative effects of mutual-identical to some texts of the translation and the violation of their correlation with the original: the reader’s trust in the author is undermined, the interest in the series of novels declines, foreign language-culture is rejected, the reader refuses further communication.

Internet memes are shown as one of the most popular communication tools that quickly reflect socially significant events. Using an image in conjunction with a textual accompaniment allows to create a memorable image of a particular politician.
